Friends of Ketcham endeavors to break the racial wealth gap by building up a community.

F.O.K.E.S. has sought community members (friends) to partner with parents to increase academic enrichment opportunities for students. Originally starting with one parent to now twelve community members - which include staff, neighbors, and local church members - lawyers, accountants, teachers, and web-developers have consistently huddled together to use their skills, connections, and wherewithal to organize and build a financial apparatus for the school community.

There are 300 students at Ketcham Elementary School: 295 are African American; 4 Latinx and 1 Caucasian. Ketcham is a Title 1 school where 100% of the students are on free and reduced lunch and 85% are considered *At-risk.

Across America, the average wealth for white families is seven times higher than average wealth for black families. And more and more, wealthy parents are raising large sums of money to improve their already-advantaged schools.
